He is the father of our nation, the architect of independent Bangladesh, the bearer of great freedom and the greatest Bengali of all time. In his long political career, he has repeatedly endured imprisonment and has moved towards a specific goal. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was a young student leader in the early stages of East Pakistani politics after the partition of the country in 1947. He later became the president of the Awami League. He declared six points for the establishment of the rights of the people of the then East Pakistan. Bangabandhu became one of the opponents of Ayub Khan’s military rule due to the demand for provincial sovereignty. His trial began in 1978 in the Agartala conspiracy case. He was acquitted. Although the Awami League under his leadership won a landslide victory in the 1970 elections, no opportunity was given to form a government. His historic speech at the Racecourse Ground in Dhaka on March 7, 1971, with a strong desire to assert the rights of Bengalis, was a firm commitment to independence. Seeing the uplifting position of the freedom-loving Bengalis, at midnight on March 25, 1971, the Pakistan Army carried out a massacre in Dhaka city. Bangabandhu was arrested and taken to West Pakistan. He was sentenced to death by a military court but did not dare to execute. After 9 months of bloody war of liberation, after Bangladesh became independent on 16 December 1971, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman returned home on 10 January 1972 and became the first President of independent Bangladesh. On August 15, 1975, a group went astray. He and his family were killed by an army officer. March 17, 2020 is the 100th birthday of this great leader.
